Get To Know Our Amazing Team

Dr. Sara Andreu

What is your educational and veterinary medicine background?

I graduated from the University of Florida with a B.S. in Animal Biology & a minor in Wildlife Ecology and Conservation, Go Gators! After a rotating internship at South Florida Wildlife Center, I joined the Class of 2019 at Western University of Health Sciences CVM.

What made you decide to become a veterinarian?

Growing up, I was the kid that would always try to bring any stray animal home. After learning that there was a branch of medicine which only worked with nonhuman animals, I knew that no other career would suffice.

What are your special interests in the field of veterinary medicine?

Part of the reason why I love the General Practice setting so much is because there is so much variety within it.

One of my top interests is nutrition! I am a strong believer in “You Are What You Eat” and can empathize with how confusing picking the best diet for our pets can be.

I also love soft tissue surgery! WesternU’s curriculum allowed me to try my hand at microsurgery, minimally invasive surgery, and learned from some of the best shelter medicine surgeons on the west coast.

What is the most unusual pet you have helped treat?

During my Exotic Medicine externship I tended to a Eurasian Owl who was infected with West Nile Virus.

What is your biggest pet peeve?

Acquiring single-use plastic.
